Dan O'Neil is running for one of the two open seats on the Milton School Committee. Dan and his wife, DaHuong and have three children that are enrolled in the Milton Public Schools: Vivian is a sophomore at the High School, Regina is an eighth grader at the Pierce Middle School, and George is a fifth grader at Cunningham Elementary. Dan has volunteered as a Milton youth soccer coach for 6 years. He is a Milton Town Meeting Member for precinct 9 and is a board member of the Massachusetts Illegal Tobacco Task Force. Dan also served for 14 years as president for Untied We Stand for Jason, a charity serving those with Huntington Disease. The O'Neil family has lived in Milton for the past 14 years.
Dan has worked at the Massachusetts Office of the Inspector General as a financial investigator conducting audits and financial reviews of state agencies, school districts and municipal agencies for 23 years. He is currently employed as the Director of Compliance & Security at the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission protecting the integrity of the Lottery's products and programs.
The Milton school's budget has changed dramatically within a few short years. Financial strains are being placed upon all Town Departments especially the Schools. The majority of the current board consists of educators and non-profit professionals with little auditing skills. Dan brings something to this race that his fellow School Committee candidates do not possess which is governmental auditing experience. Dan's a numbers professional, it's what he does for a living. Dan will vigorously bring this unique financial perspective to the School Committee .
Dan and DaHuong also have a special needs child. The O'Neils know how confusing the Special Education process is to advocate for your child's education to get needed services, have your child placed into the right programs, and the family understands how frustrating it can be. Let Dan be that voice that speaks for you and your child. Let him help the administration understand your concerns and get everyone on the same page to educating your child.
Dan will also partner with parents and educators to find common ground. He is deeply committed to fighting for all of our children and their families, including those whose voices are not always heard.
The Milton Schools are fortunate to have a new superintendent and special education director. Milton has amazing teachers and administrators who have identified areas that need to be addressed and with Dan's financial background, he can help stretch the school district's limited resources further. Dan humbly asks for your vote this April 30th.
